Alternative Assessment according to our group would be finding another way to assess pupils other than the traditional pen-paper menthods.

When we say, assess the pupils it does not only concern the marks they score, but it goes deeper to the way pupils think, and as teachers how do we guide their thinking in a correct way.

Other than only the cognitive way of learning, pupils also cultivate skills, abilities and knowledge that will enhance their results and process of learning.

Previously, learning was mostly in classrroms, but now alternative assessments can be conducted in classrooms or out of classrooms.

Teachers will have to come out of the mindset that asignments that can be given to assess pupils can only be given for the day or maybe for the week.
But now, with alternative assessments, Teachers should be concerned over the learning process instead of meeting deadlines.
Assignments can now be given for a period of weeks or months, depending on the nature of the taks allocated to pupils.

As mentioned by Christopher's group, the different type of assessments would be all that he stated.
We understand that its not necessary for teachers to conduct all the different types of assessment.
But we should consider a few of them as a reflection for us to know how our students are progressing in their learning.

An example we would like to share is the Authentic Assessment of which a real life scenario will be posted to the pupils. Pupils are supposed to investigate the diferent packages offered in the market for PSPs and come up with the best package with a good price.

In this activity, pupils need to do research on PSPs prices that come with or without pakages, make comparison out of what they have gathered, give recommendation on which is the best deal, and finally present these information to the class.

With such activities, pupils not only get to show their understanding on mathematical concepts like 'percentage', but also show that they know how to make use of such concept in their daily lives.

The purpose of education is to get our pupils ready for society and not just simply getting them to understand individual curriculum topics or pass exams. So such assessment can help us to see if pupils are able to make use of what they learnt in books and apply them into real life problems.

With such activities and assessment, we hope to also nuture pupils' higher order thinking process , problem solving abilities and presentation skills.
